Customize key bindings

Key bindings managed by the Openbox window manager are customized in the file ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml

Look at the present key bindings to understand the syntax.

$ openbox --restart After editing the config file to apply the changes.

Setup custom hotkeys

To setup custom hotkeys available on your keyboard, find out what keycode the hotkey triggers, map this keycode to a human readable key name and use it in normal key bindings as described above.

Use package xev to find the keycodes.

$ xev and hit hotkeys to figure out their keycodes.

Map the keycodes in the file ~/.xmodmaprc with the following syntax: keycode 121 = F14

$ xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc To apply the changes.

Use the mapped key names to add key bindings in Openbox window manager, as described above.

Screen back-light brightness

On most laptops, key bindings for screen back-light brightness control are auto detected according to the keyboard of the computer. If not, follow the back-light brightness tutorial.
