On most laptops, key bindings for screen back-light brightness control are auto detected according to the keyboard of the computer.

If not, use the key bindings customization documentation to setup your own back-light brightness keys. Map them to keys called:

XF86MonBrightnessDown and XF86MonBrightnessUp

Let BrightnessDown execute: $ xbacklight -dec 20

Let BrightnessUp execute: $ xbacklight -inc 20

If steps of 20 percent does not work on your system, try another step interval.
